Heartlands Hospital New Hybrid Theatre

Virtus Healthcare project management has just successfully delivered the new £4.5m Hybrid Theatre on behalf of the Heart of England Foundation Trust (HEFT) at its Heartlands Hospital site in Bordesley Green, Birmingham.

Virtus maintained control over the entire project from inception to completion, providing the specialist knowledge and advice to successful deliver the project in line with its 9 month build programme and within its allocated budget, the first patient operation was conducted on the 25th September 2015.
The new state-of-the-art hybrid operating facility is the first of its kind in the country, the fully laser compliant interactive theatre centres around the world-leading GE Discovery 740 robotic machine which utilises 3D technology, the robot will be used for a range of specialist procedures including keyhole endo-vascular aneurysm repair.

The facility is tailor-made and was specifically developed and facilitated between Virtus Project Management and the operational clinical teams, the theatre was designed to enhance the trusts surgical capacity across its 3 sites, built around world-leading robotic machinery.

Mr Martin Claridge, vascular surgeon and clinical lead for the hybrid theatre project congratulated Virtus stating,

“The Theatre itself is superb. It has performed flawlessly so far and it really is a world class facility. We look forward to working in it and providing top class treatment for our patients as a result for years to come.  So well done to you and all of the rest of the team in getting this delivered, particularly in last few weeks when there were so many stakeholders to coordinate in order to deliver this project in a timely fashion.

This development will secure Heartlands Hospital’s commitment to vascular surgery. We have the busiest custom made endo-vascular service in Europe achieving outstanding results and this facility will allow us to treat more patients and allow us to push forward as we continue to lead the way in the field”.

The theatre is now capable of becoming the regional centre for vascular surgery and will allow an expansion of other trust clinical services such as Urology and interventional radiology; it also provides the trust with a state of the art training facility for cardio vascular surgery.
