Environmental Tax to replace CRC

Environmental Tax to replace CRC

Chancellor George Osborne appears to have finally taken notice of customer concerns.  In his budget statement the chancellor made it clear that the government plans to introduce a new environmental tax this autumn if officials are unable to find “major savings” in the administrative costs incurred by businesses and organisations complying with the scheme. Since it was mooted, major energy users have been critical of the scheme and its huge cost and time demands required to comply. There is a significant process of consultation required, however proposals to simplify the CRC process should bring more certainty to large organisations.
