Education Estate Expansion and Turnkey Project Delivery
Virtus Consult has supported Joseph Chamberlain College in developing its estate expansion programme, providing a turnkey multidisciplinary consultancy service to help the College plan and deliver additional teaching accommodation.
Working with Glancy Nicholls Architects, Ramboll, DW Pointer and Turley, Virtus coordinated the professional team in developing a masterplan to support the phased growth of the College’s Birmingham campus.
A key element of the programme was a new teaching building, providing twelve classrooms and a range of supporting learning and student facilities.
The design incorporates ICT facilities, a digital lounge, conference and meeting accommodation, staff offices and shared social spaces. A central courtyard and triple-height communal area were designed to provide daylight and accessible amenity space within the development.
Virtus’s involvement included coordinating the multidisciplinary consultancy team and supporting the development of the scheme through design and procurement.
The main contractor, mac-group, was appointed through the Procure Partnerships Framework to deliver the approximately £5 million teaching facility.
The commission demonstrates Virtus’s ability to provide clients with a coordinated professional team, combining Project Management with the appointment and management of specialist consultants.
Rather than undertaking an isolated professional appointment, Virtus supported the College in progressing a wider estate strategy and developing a project designed to meet its changing educational requirements.
