Virtus Director Fundraising for SolarAid

Published: 30th April 2013

One of the Virtus Directors; Jan Ponsford is about to embark on a challenging triathalon to raise £500 for SolarAid.  With 3 young children and a demanding job, Jan has not done a lot of exercise over the last few years so he decided that it was about time to do something about it. So he thought he'd start easily, and take part in his first Triathalon.   The sprint event at Blenheim Palace on 9th June 2013 includes a 750m swim in a cold lake, 19.8k on a very small saddle followed by a 5.4k run and after he think's he''ll need medical assistance to get home, particulalry as there's only 5 weeks to go and he's yet to dip his toe into anything colder than then local swimming baths!

Jan is aiming to raise £500 for SolarAid. (Charity Registration No. 1115960).  Just £6 helps share the cost of a solar light so families in Africa no longer have to use toxic kerosene.

SolarAid’s vision is of a world where everyone has access to affordable, clean, renewable power. SolarAid aims to relieve poverty through facilitating the provision of solar energy to those in need, and to advance awareness of solar energy, climate change and the protection of the environment and to disseminate the results of research into energy generation, distribution, supply and use.
