Virtus has been appointed by Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust to provide Programme Management and Energy Consultancy services in the delivery of their five year plan to reduce energy and carbon consumption.

Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (HoE) is one of the leading NHS Foundation Trusts in the country, with over 10,000 employees providing general and specialist hospital care for the people of East Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Tamworth and South Staffordshire.

Virtus is assisting the Trust to develop a public/private initiative to implement an energy and carbon reduction strategy. This strategy may include recommendations for capital investment in upgrading existing or introducing new technologies in expectation of greater medium and long term revenue reductions for the Trust.

Using a competitive dialogue procedure, Virtus will support the Trust in working towards an agreement with a vendor or a combination of vendors to take the process forward, agreeing an optimum balance between investment, sustainability, carbon and energy reduction with the aim of meeting and where practicable, exceeding published NHS targets.

This process may require transfer of knowledge to support the development of suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP) within the Tr us t’s Cross Site team, facilitating the long term stewardship of the energy management regime.

Jan Ponsford, Director of Virtus commented; "We are delighted to be working with Heart of England to implement their medium term energy reduction strategy. The opportunity for the Trust is huge and with our Programme Management and Energy Consultancy experience we believe that the opportunities for the Trustwillquicklyberealised. The projectpresents a significant opportunity to develop a model that pairs re-modelling of operational behaviours with predominately private financed investment in infrastructure to reduce energy and carbon footprint. With the public sector finances under severe pressure we believe that this is a model that other clients, both within the NHS and outside could benefit hugely from."
